We live in a world full of pollution and harsh chemicals are in almost EVERYTHING! Because of this, many people now have sensitized skin. Here are some tips to help ditch the redness and be one step closer to better skin.
1. Drop the soap! Bar soap is so harsh that it strips the skin causing redness as well as breakouts. Visit your esthetician to find a cleanser best suited for YOUR skin.
2. Get physical with your sunscreen! The sun can be very harmful to your skin, so it is important to wear SPF every day. Chemical sunscreens can be very irritating so go physical! Find a sunscreen that's at lease SPF 30 and contains either Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide.
3. Water- The Emeny? Skin that is extremely sensitized can be too sensitive for hot water. Avoid showering too often. Ask your esthetician about gentle cleansers to help calm sensitivity.
4. Ditch the Irritants. Using too many products that contain irritants such as lanolin, colors, and artificial fragrances can make sensitivity worse. Never cleanse with abrasive scrubs, loofahs, brushes, or sponges.
5. Say No to Spice. Avoid foods that are known to stimulate blood flow (which causes redness) such as spicy foods, red wine, caffeine, alcohol, artificial sweeteners, dairy, and tomatoes.
6. Put Down the Cigarette! When you smoke, you essentially are suffocating your skin. Because the skin isn't getting the right amount of oxygen, it can be more likely to become sensitized.
7. Go Green! Use a moisturizer with a green tint (mineral people, not artificial color) to help neutralize redness.
8. Relax! Reducing your stress level can also reduce redness. Try yoga, meditation, or deep breathing to help destress and keep your body and skin happy and healthy.
