#1: Less is more!
There are so many products on the market now that treat a whole spectrum of skin problems. I am an avid Youtube viewer and am subscribed to quite the list of beauty gurus. When I watch skin care routines, I am totally shocked. Some of these people have crazy routines that consist of 10 or more products which take them 15 minutes to get through the whole thing! Honestly, the best thing for your skin is to keep it as short and sweet as possible. Find the simplest products you can and use only the products you NEED. Realistically, the only products that you need in your skin care routine are a good cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and SPF!
#2 :If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it!
Many people I’ve come across online and in real life are constantly ditching products that work for them to try to find something that works better. If you have found products that give you great results, don’t go looking for a better product. You may end up making your skin worse! Don’t just use products that you don’t need as a preventative measure either. Just because you are 20 years old, you don’t need to be using anti-aging products. Use what your skin needs and that’s it, if you want to treat yourself to a facial once in a while where they will use very luxurious products, that’s fine. A professional will know what your skin needs and what it can and can’t handle.
#3: Ingredients really are important
This one is definitely from school. We had to do a project where we break down products by their ingredients and you would not believe the things that are in products! If you find a certain ingredient works well for your skin, look for it in products. Knowing a little bit about ingredients can really take you a long way. It’s very important to know what is in your products and what they are doing (or supposed to be doing) for your skin. Just because a product has a hefty price tag that doesn’t mean that you are paying for a higher quality product. Don’t just go into a store and pick up whatever says its for your skin type. Talk to people; learn about ingredients and what they do. I guarantee this is super helpful when shopping for skin care.
#4: Always wear SPF!!!
I cannot stress enough how important wearing sunscreen is. The sun is so damaging to the skin and who wants to risk getting skin cancer? The sun can actually cause signs of aging and dark spots known as hyperpigmentation. Even if you don’t plan to be lying in the sun, the rays are all around you. You can still be affected by the rays while walking, driving in your car, if you sit next to a window, and even on cloudy days! That’s why it’s so important that you wear SPF every day. Find a sunscreen that works for you and keep it with the rest of your morning skin care so you don’t forget to put it on.
#5: Read reviews and do research!
This is a rule that I have stumbled upon on my own about a year ago. I was definitely one of those people that saw people talking about a product online and I needed to have it, only to find out that it didn’t work for me. Before I buy any new products I research the crap out of them. I watch reviews on Youtube, read reviews online, and talk to people I know that have used it. When researching don’t just read goof reviews either. Sometimes, the bad reviews can be more helpful than the good ones. Some websites, like Sephora, actually give some basic information on the reviewer such as age range, skin type, and skin tone which I love because it can give you an even better idea if a product will work for you or not. Why waste the time and money on a product that you don’t know if it’ll work for you. ALWAYS research products before buying them!!
