I purchased the lavender Mia 2. I was so excited when I finally got to see the wonders this would do to my skin. I’m going to tell you a little bit about my skin prior to using this product first. I was in beauty school at the time and my skin was reacting very nicely to all the products I was using at school. I hardly had any breakouts.
When I first got my Clarisonic I charged it right away. Everyone was talking up this product so much; I needed to see for myself what it could do. I used it for four consecutive nights and my face had already begun to break out. My skin was so bad after just using it for those four nights that my teacher could tell a difference in my skin under a magnifying light. She told me that my skin was ultra sensitive and very irritated. My skin was so sensitive that they had to skip the steam and do an alternative massage as to not further irritate my skin. By then, I was seriously not a fan of this product. I had no idea what the problem was back then.
Almost every review I watched or read said that you would experience breakouts for anywhere from 2-6 weeks. I was definitely not okay with this. The fact that I started breaking out that much from only four days of use was insane. I had no idea why everyone broke out, now I know. Now that I’m licensed, I see what the problem was. Cell turnover only happened once every 28 days. This is why you really only need to exfoliate once a month. Because I was using such an intense exfoliation for four nights straight, I stripped off the top layer of my skin which protects the younger cells underneath. My skin was then exposed to all kinds of bacteria and produced excess oil to add some form of protection to the skin. This is why I and so many other people break out.
It is recommended that you use this product twice daily. I can’t imagine what someone’s skin would look like if they used this twice a day every day. Their skin would be like Plexiglas and super sensitized. I only used the sensitive brush head and I found that at times that seems a little too abrasive for me.
My professional opinion is that this product doesn’t make your skin any cleaner than your hands and a cleanser. This is just to provide exfoliation. I recommend that this be used NO MORE than twice a week, Using it more than that will be too much for the skin and can lead to dryness, irritation, hyperpigmentation, breakouts, and even premature aging. You can also damage new skin cells by over exfoliating. I personally use mine once a week and alternate between my Clarisonic and a gentle scrub.
The breakdown:
I do really love how this makes my skin feel super soft and smooth after I use it. I love using it the day of special events (which makes my makeup apply like a dream) and when I feel like my skin needs a more intense form of exfoliation. I did feel that the sensitive skin brush head could be a bit too abrasive for my skin at times and plan to try the delicate brush head next. Over using this product could actually damage your skin. Using this product more than twice a week could actually produce some serious skin consequences.
