Our body had it's own process of shedding old and hardened skin cells through a process we estheticians like to call desquamation. Once the old cells are shed, new cells can then come to the surface. In clients with an oily skin type, this process can be slowed because the oil holds the dead cells to the skin's surface. Because of this, pores can become clogged which can lead to breakouts.
Exfoliation is very important for all skin types but it's especially helpful to my fellow oily skinned clients. Exfoliation helps improves the skin' tone, smooth the skin, and helps keep the skin clear by getting rid of dead skin cells.
Depending on your skin type and contraindications, your exfoliation regimen will vary. See your esthetician to find out the type of exfoliant that is best for you and how often it should be used.
